Read User's CommentsAs a follow-up to our meeting on local search tactics, I found this video on YouTube. It does talk about paid Google ad campaigns, but also about organic (free) search results.
Enjoy!

Our next Windsor Biz Talk session (May 29, 2008) will be on guerrilla marketing. It would be great if we could have local small business owners who have tried this and have some success stories to share. If you would like to participate, please email me at jwentworth@santarosa.edu.
Here is the information from our May 15, 2008 workshop.
Estimates are that 30-40% of all Internet searches are done looking for something (goods, services, experiences) that are local. If you service a geographic area, it is important you are getting your share of these searches.
Our next Windsor Biz Talk will be on May 15 at 9 am at the Town office. Our topic will be Local Search. We will talk about listings in Google and Yahoo, as well as other local directories. If you have particular questions, please send them to me. Found any local resources that have been good for business? Please share them with us. If you send me the info ahead I will incorporate it into the session. See you on the 15th!
We had a great introduction to email marketing on Wednesday. Stu Cart of Constant Contact discussed how to get started, building a mailing list and best practices. Here is the link to his presentation.
We did a follow-up Biz Talk session on Thursday and had a smaller turnout but many questions and issues on using email marketing were raised. Several people had questions on security issues, such as the risks of putting your email address on your web site. We had some anecdotal comments but not enough details to really address the underlying issue. So I will follow-up and see if we can get the details and then discuss the specific concerns. Starting a business, interacting on the Web, well, life in general, will have risks. But we need to be informed, make the best choices and reduce the risks as best we can. This is a good topic for future discussion.
Meanwhile, I am planning for our next BizTalk which will be on Local Search. If you have any questions, please send them to me so I can incorporate them into the presentation.
I hope to see you on May 15, 9-10 am at the Town of Windsor office.
